I was just wondering what would happen if in the sgc,

when the kawoosh if half-way through and the wave if out, what would happen if the iris closed and cut it off from the gate??

Lol...

Suppose you would have a big puddle on the floor?

I think that to the part of the wave that is left outside the iris (???) would just disappear, and the energy in it go thru the iris to wormhole...

well, asuming the "kawoosh" is energy released when establishing a wormhole, then it would either:

1) disipate into the atmosphere

or

2) it would be sucked back into the gate like normal and either:

2a) destroy the iris

2b) have no effect on the iris's atoms

or

2c) affect the atoms in the iris on a level that we do not understand...the stargate is a very very advanced peice of technology, we barely understand how it works.

I think the released energy of the kawoosh would desintegrate the iris like all other things it reaches. Even if it's just pulled back instead of spreading out of the wormhole.

But I'm sure even the producers of the show don't know it. tongue.gif

Wouldn't that be something for our university graduates? -> theoretical physics

I reckon the karwoosh energy would be sucked back into the gate through the iris 'burning' a hole in it.

but when the iris is closed and the gate engages, the kawoosh doesnt come out and burn the iris does it?!?

we do not know what would happen

If the iris is closed, no matter can reintegrate and so the atoms just can't build up to the object that entered the gate. I think it's the same with the kawoosh energy. But I'm not sure how energy can be disintegrated. blink.gif
And I'm not a physicist, just some suggestions of mine. unsure.gif

Maybe the Back of the Iris is made of stronger stuff while the front is just for show?
<Joke answer out of the way>

If it is energy then what if the Iris has something built in to disipate that energy out to some capacitors thus cutting energy costs.

if that was true im sure that sam would have come up with some kind of loop so that the energy 'captured' can power the stargate, cutting the power costs for the sgc??

to be honest, i dont think the show writers thought of that...

we will just have to make a stargate and an iris and see what happens to the energy! laugh.gif

Ya...suppose that is the only way to tell....

But the thing is energy does not 'dissapear'. It all goes somewhere.
